Have a question? We have the answer!

Below you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about our class. If your question is not answered below, check out our contact page to send us a message.

01

What is the class about?

In the literal sense, ACMA summer theatre is an intensive musical theatre production undertaken over a 5-week period. We rehearse and perform a full-length musical in that time. Students participate in both the performance of the show and the behind-the-scenes preparation such as set building and costume design. Philosophically, we are about boosting confidence and encouraging openness to others, to students' own potential, and to experiences that challenge students and help them grow.

02

When is the class?

The class takes place in the month of July. This year's dates are June 27th - July 30th, with performances on July 28th, 29th, and 30th. Students attend class Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 3:00pm.

03

What is the cost? Why?

The tuition for ACMA Summer Theatre is $400. This covers the cost of production from renting the performance rights to materials for set and costumes to staff and custodial costs. We have worked hard to keep the costs of these things as low as possible so that we can keep tuition low. In comparison to other, similar programs, this is very inexpensive - about 40% less.

Are there scholarships available?

Because we try to keep the cost of the class low for everyone, our budget does not include much revenue beyond the bare minimum required to run the class. However, we are committed to including everyone who wants to participate, and to that end we are able to offer a very limited number of partial scholarships. Please contact us to inquire further, or check out these fundraising opportunities.

What if I can't be there the whole time?

You need to be in class as much as possible, but if you need to miss a few days we can accommodate your schedule as long as you notify us in advance. Be prepared to put in extra effort when you return to catch up with the rest of the cast. Absences should not be in the last two weeks of the production, and you must be available for all performances.

06

Do I have to audition?

We audition for principal roles and solos only - there is no audition required to sign up for the class. We will ask you to do a range test to make sure we assign you to the correct vocal part, but beyond that you do not have to audition unless you want a lead role. Auditions for lead roles will take place in ACMA's blue box May 6-7 from 2:30-4:30. If you are offered a lead role, you will be asked to sign up for the class as soon as possible and put down a tuition deposit to indicate your acceptance.

What do I need for my audition?

Be prepared to sing about 1 minute of a song that reflects the style and character of the part you want to play. Your song choice should be from a broadway musical and should allow you to show your voice across a large part of your range. Please bring accompaniment in the form of a CD - you can find karaoke versions of most songs on iTunes or similar services. We request that you not audition acapella.
